Current Limiting Protector
Delivering a proven solution to a complicated problem.
With electrical energy demand rising at an unprecedented rate, distribution systems are facing increased pressure to upscale and maintain performance. Enabling infrastructure to support a growing need for electrical energy is achieved through strengthening transmission systems, expanding substation capacity and distributed generation – but this ultimately contributes to increased fault currents imposed on the equipment.
Resulting from a project sponsored by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), G&W Electric developed the Current Limiting Protector (CLiP) as a means of limiting fault current in scenarios where prospective short circuit current exceeds the fault rating of the protected equipment from a thermal and mechanical perspective. The CLiP reduces fault energy by 99% on overdutied equipment.
CSE Uniserve is providing a tailored solution to an ever-growing problem with the CLiP, a cost-effective, single-shot, commutating, electronically sensed and triggered device.
Applications
Power Distribution
Utilised across power distribution systems, CLiPs protect transformers, conductors, and other equipment from overcurrent conditions, by limiting the fault current, helping to prevent damage and system stability.
Industrial Facilities
In industrial settings, CLiPs protect critical equipment from the damaging and costly effects of electrical faults. CLiPs deliver protection in environments with high power demands and complex electrical systems, such as manufacturing plants and processing facilities.
Renewable Energy Systems
In renewable energy installations, such as wind farms and solar power plants, CLiPs protect inverters, transformers, and other critical components from overcurrent scenarios to ensure reliable operation and increase the lifespan of the equipment.
Transportation Systems
Integrated into transport systems to protect electrical circuits and equipment, CLiPs enhance safety and reduce operating costs by preventing electrical fires and equipment failures caused by overcurrent conditions.
